Hardscape "Africa": Stones and ground for Africa-themed aquariums

The Hardscape Africa comprises a total of two small and four large perforated stones as well as the gravel Sera White. It offers the right basis for the habitat of cichlids from Lake Malawi or Tanganyika in Africa. The perforated rock serves as a good hiding place for the young fish and thanks to a high-pressure cleaning it is quite smooth and no longer sharp-edged, so that no injuries can occur. Plants also find good growth opportunities in the holes. The arrangement of the hardscape is of course only an example, there are no limits to your creativity when setting up!

The Hardscape Africa is optimal for the Scaper Cube 80 litres (40x40x50 cm) but is also suitable for the 48 cm (40x40x30 cm) and 64 litre (40x40x40 cm) scaper cubes, which only differ in height.

The Hardscape 'Africa' contains:

• 1 x Sera Gravel White - 3 litres
• 2 x Sera Gravel White - 6 litres

Note:
Without plants, the picture serves only as an example! This hardscape also does not contain any nutrient medium, since cichlids, the typical inhabitants of an African basin, like to burrow.

Additions
Small cichlids are suitable for the 64 litre and 80-litre scaper cubes in combination with the "Africa" hardscape e.g. small snail cichlids.

Plants
The different types of water plants can be arranged between the stones and thus become "green highlights" in the otherwise fairly neutral, bright hardscape.

Additional lighting
A second LED tube is recommended for the two Sera Scaper Cubes 64 litres and 80 litres, depending on the planting. The Sera LED X-Change Tube plant colour sunrise, which promotes plant growth, is particularly suitable for lush planting. If cichlids with a bluish tint are cared for, the Sera LED X-Change cool daylight LED tube is particularly useful because it emphasises the bluish colours.

Hardscape "Desert": Stones and substrate for themed aquariums "Desert"

With the Hardscape Desert, an underwater desert can be easily simulated. What sounds contradictory at first, however, makes a lot of things: the so-called mainstone included in the set stands out and is an absolute eye-catcher. With the five smaller stones, for example, you can create an impressive mountain pass. What shouldn't be missing in a desert: sand of course! The particularly fine-grained Sera Ochre Gravel in combination with the somewhat coarser-grained Sera Beige Gravel imitates the desert floor optimally.

The Hardscape Desert is optimal for the 80 litre (40x40x50 cm) scaper cube but is also suitable for the 48 litre (40x40x30 cm) and 64 litre (40x40x40 cm) scaper cubes that only differ in height. In these cases, the amount of substrate may need to be reduced, and the mainstone may protrude a little from the pool.

Additions
For the Sera Scaper Cubes 64 litres and 80 litres in combination with the hardscape "Desert", particularly free-swimming shoal fish such as. red tetras or small rainbow fish are suitable.

Plants
Plants also grow in the desert. Ground covers were planted in the front area of the aquarium, giving the impression of an oasis.

Additional lighting

If ground cover plants are used (as in the furnishing example), the Sera LED X-Change cool daylight LED tube is particularly useful because ground cover plants require a lot of light and “stretch” when there is too little light, causing them to grow higher.
