The easy-to-maintain dwarf needle Eleocharis parvula from Australia and New Zealand is also known in the trade as Eleocharis pusilla. It likes soft to hard water. The grass plant, which grows to a height of 3 to 5 cm, really comes into its own in the foreground of the aquarium.
The fine, light green stems of the dwarf needle Eleocharis parvula grow overhanging. The plants grow to a height of only 3 to 5 cm and therefore fit perfectly as a foreground plant and lawn plant in a nano aquarium.
Eleocharis parvula reproduces very quickly as offshoots. This quickly results in a really nice and dense lawn in the foreground in the aquarium. The shoots can be cut off with sharp scissors and replanted. It works best with tweezers because the young plants are so small.
Eleocharis parvula grows very well in soft to medium-hard water. CO2 fertilisation is not necessary but promotes good growth. The plants grow somewhat higher in medium light, and the dwarf needle ledge grows compact and low under strong light. From time to time you have to thin out the lawn thoroughly because it tends to overgrown in several layers.
The cups are produced in the laboratory in a sterile and pesticide-free manner and the dwarf needle, therefore, comes completely without algae spores or bacteria and other pathogens. You are also guaranteed not to bring parasites and pests into your home.
Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
Before planting, the dwarf needle is cut to a height of approx. 1-2 cm. In the changeover, they usually throw off their fine leaves anyway, and the remains in the pool is very annoying. By trimming you save yourself from fishing out the dead stalks.
