Description

Three macronutrients in particular play a very important role in an aquarium: nitrogen (N, nitrate), phosphorus (P, phosphate) and potassium (K). In normally planted aquariums, N and P do not normally need to be added, as they enter the water in sufficient quantities through food and fish excrement. The situation is different, however, in heavily planted aquariums or those with plants that have heavy nutrient requirements - these macronutrients (especially N and P) are usually in short supply and need to be supplemented.

It is very important to keep an eye on the levels of these macronutrients by measuring them regularly and supplementing them as required. Plant Care NPK by Dennerle is a macronutrient fertiliser that creates a biological balance of these nutrients by ensuring that plants absorb all three in equal proportions. Using the liquid fertiliser over a longer period eliminates deficiencies and an imbalance between these three macronutrients which could lead to the formation of algae.

When to use Plant Care NPK?

Because aquariums differ by number of plants as well as species, animal stock levels, feeding, water changes and growing conditions, NPK consumption must be determined individually and regularly.

Plant Care NPK should only be used if a macronutrient deficiency has been identified! Nitrate and/or phosphate levels should be measured weekly and NPK should be supplemented as required - determine the amount based on the measured values. Potassium does not normally need to be measured, as the combination of tap water and Plant Care NPK supplies the aquarium water with sufficient potassium. An overdose of potassium is usually impossible. Overdosing nitrate and phosphate, on the other hand, is not favourable at all as it can lead to increased algae growth.

Recommended dosage:

Measure and fertilise with Plant Care NPK over several weeks. After a while time, the measured values should stabilise and allow you to determine what dosage of macronutrients you need to add. This will determine the weekly dose.

You can then add the weekly dose of Plant Care NPK and gradually increase the measurement intervals to 2 to 4 weeks.

Macronutrient fertilisers should always be used in combination with micronutrient fertilisers. For a complete nutrient supply and optimal plant growth, use Plant Care NPK in combination with Plant Care Pro.

Guideline value: 10 ml NPK per 100 litres of aquarium water per week = 5 mg/L nitrate, 0.4 mg/L phosphate and 2.5 mg/L potassium.

CAUTION: If the tap water you use for the water change has a very high nitrate content but too little phosphate, or a high phosphate content but very little nitrate, do not use Plant Care NPK! This could lead to a macronutrient imbalance.
