PhosGuard™ is an effective solution for rapidly eliminating phosphates and silicates in freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Although PhosGuard™ is effective in both types of water, its effects are strongest in saltwater where the need for effective phosphate and silicate control is higher.

Use in phosphate-buffered freshwater is not recommended as it would remove the buffer. The special porosity and bead shape of PhosGuard™ allows for easy and efficient flow of water through and around the product, increasing its capacity and effectiveness.

Recommended use:

Seachem recommends pre-wetting PhosGuard™ by adding it to a double volume of fresh water. Rinse out afterwards. It is best to place the material so that maximum water flow is guaranteed. A filter bag is recommended.

Use 85 ml of PhosGuard™ for 200 litres of salt water or 400 litres of fresh water. Let it work for 4 days and then measure the silicate and phosphate concentrations. If the concentration has not fallen to 0.02 mg/L, PhosGuard™ can be replaced. Otherwise, it can be left in place until the values start to rise again.

Tip: PhosGuard™ is not an exchange resin. It therefore does not release anything into the water. It does not leach phosphate or silicate back into the water and can be removed, dried and reused as long as it lasts.
