The very easy-to-maintain Anubias barteri var. 'Petite', the small dwarf spider leaf, comes from Africa. This epiphyte, only about 2 to about 5 cm high, is perfect for nano aquariums and roots or stones in the middle ground and tolerates soft to hard water.
The original form of the really small dwarf spear leaf Anubias barteri var. 'Petite' is actually from Africa, but the petite is a cultivated form. The dark green very small leaflets sit on short, rather thick stems. This miniature aquarium plant grows really slowly and is very easy to maintain.
The small dwarf spear leaf Anubias barteri var. 'Petite' is not used as a seamer plant in the aquarium bottom. If you really want to plant them on the ground, you must not bury the rhizome (the green rhizome on which the leaves sit). It is better if you put the little dwarf spear leaf on roots, root branches or smaller aquarium lines. It fits really nicely into nano aquariums and looks especially great on an aquarium tree where the little leaves look like leaves in the treetop.
This truly easy-care Anubias barteri var. 'Petite' is tough and can be kept in any aquarium water. Even under low light, it still grows. Anubias nana var. 'Petite' can even be placed in a perch aquarium because the fish do not really like to eat them.
The breeding of the Little Dwarf Spear Leaf is also super easy, all you need is a pair of scissors to cut off a piece of the rootstock. It should be only two to three leaves. You can then grow a full plant from this slip.
Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
This little Anubias looks great in an aquarium tree like a Wire Tree, which you can also buy here in our shop. The easiest way to glue them is with JBL's rapid-release gel ProHaru Rapid on the branches (or on roots and stones for your aquarium).
