Description

The easy-care Montecarlo pearl herb Micranthemum sp. 'Montecarlo', also available as Micranthemum tweediei or Montecarlo-3, comes from South America. The fast growing aquarium plant likes soft to medium-hard water. The 3 to approx. 15 cm high ground cover plant really comes into its own in the foreground or middle of the aquarium.

Montecarlo pearl herb Micranthemum sp. 'Montecarlo' forms quite long shoots, but because it grows creeping, it does not get very high and can, therefore, be used as ground cover in the foreground. Even in the middle ground, you can create really great, relaxed effects with the fine-leaved plant. You can even attach it to roots or stones and let it grow overhanging - and thus create an extraordinary effect in your aquascape or plant aquarium.

The shoots of Micranthemum sp. 'Montecarlo' grow roots on the stem nodes, from which a new plant then forms. To propagate, simply cut off the thin stems and place them in with tweezers.

The very fine-leaved Micranthemum sp. 'Montecarlo' grows great in soft to medium-hard water. CO2, together with a good supply of nutrients, is necessary for compact growth and great colours. Montecarlo grows nicely low and compact under medium-strong to strong light but tends to rise under low light.

You can also buy the Montecarlo pearl herb at Olibetta in the shop in a sterile cup from the laboratory. This aquarium plant was grown from cell cultures and is therefore definitely not contaminated. It also doesn't bring any pests, parasites or pathogens and you can, therefore, use it directly in the aquarium, even if you care for sensitive aquarium inhabitants such as dwarf shrimp.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:

The Montecarlo grows in the foreground as a very dense carpet. You should thin it out from time to time so that the plant does not steal the light from itself. If the carpet becomes too thick, it can float, and we don't want that either.
