The very easy to maintain water moss Vesicularia dubyana comes from Asia. Singapore moss, sometimes sold under the name Javamoos, is only 2 to 5 cm high and is perfect on roots and stones in the foreground and middle ground and tolerates soft to hard water.
The delicate Singapore moss Vesicularia dubyana from Asia also looks a bit like a forest moss underwater, with mid-green to dark green, horizontally growing shoots. It is less branched than Christmas moss and grows more compactly than Java moss.
Singapore moss can therefore also be used as ground cover. In the foreground, it is best to keep it in place if you attach it to flat stones - either by tying it up with nylon thread or by glueing with a plant glue such as the quick glue Gel ProHaru Rapid from JBL. With a regular cut, the upholstery becomes wonderfully dense and fluffy.
Singapore moss also gives your aquarium roots or rocky landscape a very beautiful, original and totally natural touch. Tied up on the so-called hardscape, it grows into beautiful dense cushions. Singapore moss on the branches of an aquarium tree makes the tree top beautiful green and makes the aquarium tree look like a real bonsai. Vesicularia dubyana has sticky bits and attaches very quickly to the surface.
Vesicularia dubyana is easy to care for and hardly demanding, so you can pack the moss in most aquarium setups. There is no need for an extra supply of CO2, and poor lighting is also no obstacle. The other way around it also feels good, with CO2 fertilisation and under stronger light it can also grow.
This aquarium moss can be propagated by simply pulling it apart. Simply divide the upholstery, done.
Here in the Olibetta shop you buy the Singapore moss professionally bound on a size S root suitable for aquariums. This root is about 20-25 cm long.
Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
The beautiful aquarium moss Vesicularia dubyana, was previously sold as Java moss, today it has established itself under the name of Singapore moss in aquaristics. It has been in aquaristics for a very long time and has really proven itself here.
